New Build 2 of AstroShare and AstroView: (Versions 1.59 B2)
  • We found a small bug introduced into Version 1.59. This bug could cause AstroShare or AstroView on any platform to quit after disconnecting. This would occur most noticeably on the OS X version of AstroView. This is fixed now.
  • We improved AstroView for Windows and Macintosh by drawing the remote mouse pointer as a pointer instead of a round circle.
  • In AstroView and AstroShare for OS X we now save the preferences files in the Preferences folder of the current active user. This is usually "UserName:Library:Preferences". This change is especially important when using a Fast User Switched account because now each user will have their own preferences file. AstroShare will then be able to correctly use the port saved in your preferences file and not someone else's. Please note that if you use Fast User Switching and you have chosen "Open At Login" for AstroShare you will also need to turn on "Auto-Share Desktop On Launch" under "Share Options...". You must activate this option seperately for each user since it's stored in the preferences file. This allows everything to happen automatically after a reboot and intial login of each user.
New Versions of AstroShare and AstroView: (Versions 1.59)

Added Features:
  • In AstroShare for OS X we added support for Fast User Switching. This allows you to create multiple OS X users and launch AstroShare inside each user account. You must select a different port number for each user's instance of AstroShare. Then using AstroView on another machine you can get a list of all the users that can be logged in remotely by using the "Auto-Detect Via LAN". In order to support multiple people being remotely logged in at the same time with each having their own virtual display you must be running at least OS 10.4 on the machine where you have enabled Fast User Switching. In OS 10.3 you will only be able to see what's on the physcial monitor as each user logs in and out. A good use of this set up is to have a fast machine, say a G5, running and have people using it remotely from any other computer, including for example a Windows 95 machine running at 250 Mhz. Each remotely logged in user gets the benefits of running on a fast G5 machine.

  • In AstroShare and AstroView for all platforms we now open up all three Chalk-Talk windows if a message comes in and the main Chalk-Board window isn't already open. If the main Chalk-Board window is already open then it's just brought to the front when a new message arrives.
Bug fixes:
  • In AstroShare for all platforms we fixed a bug that would not let you change the port number or any other information in the "Connection Intialization..." screen if a share attempt failed. The main "Start" button would also stay as "Stop" after a failed "Shared" attempt. This also means you couldn't click the "Share" button to try again. These problems are fixed now.
